Karhorn via ferrata
This wonderful via ferrata is one of Vorarlberg’s easiest. Even kids can enjoy climbing here. The via ferrata is subdivided into a very easy “eastern ridge” and a somewhat more difficult “western” ridge.
Ascent & descent
The starting point of the via ferrata is easy to reach via the Steffisalp-Express. From the mountain station, climbers hike about 45 min (300 m elevation) to the Wartherhornsattel and the start of the “eastern ridge” ascent.
To return, climbers should hike back via the southern normal trail. At the beginning, take care not to turn left to Geröllmulde but instead follow the markers to the southeast. Concentration and sure-footedness are needed on the gravel trail. Soon climbers will reach the hiking trail that leads back to the Wartherhornsattel.
The route
The eastern ridge of the via ferrata leads from the starting point to the peak. The level of difficulty throughout is A/B. This route is therefore well suited to beginners and also for families with children who want to try out via ferrata for the first time.
The western ridge leads 600 m to the peak of the Karhorn along the ridge to the exit.
