Alpine herbs spice up the milk

Produced regionally and sustainably

For centuries, the people of Bregenzerwald have practiced a 3-stage management of their pastures. In this way they preserve the mountain landscape and make optimal use of the pasture area.

Alpine herbs spice up the milk

This form of management has on the one hand economic reasons, because the pasture areas are used optimally. On the other hand, alpine pasture is important for the preservation and maintenance of the sensitive mountain landscape. In addition, alpine pastures with their many herbs offer the healthiest nutrition for dairy cows. This makes the milk particularly tasty and aromatic, the ideal prerequisite for the spicy Bregenzerwald mountain cheese.

Homecoming of the cows

In many Alpine regions, the „Alpabtrieb“ is the festive culmination of the farming year. In Schwarzenberg, this tradition has been upheld in almost unchanged form for over 400 years. In mid-September, the cows return from their summer retreat on the high alp.

Traditional marketday

In the middle of September the traditional market day takes place every year in Schwarzenberg. The village center is bustling with market activity. The market stalls are mainly occupied by regional marketers and lovingly decorated. In the Angelika Kauffmann Hall the alpine cheese award ceremony takes place.
